New Suicide Commando album out later this month

Good news for fans of Harsh EBM and industrial music. The new album from Belgian Harsh EBM artist Johan van Roy, better known as Suicide Commando. The long awaited follow up to ‘Forest of The Impaled’ will be entitled ‘Goddestructor’. This will be a double record with a 11 new songs and a bonus remix album featuring artists such as C-Lekktor and Assemblage 23.

Less than a month until Laurus Nobilis returns

In 2015, we brought you coverage of the 1st edition of Portuguese Summer festival Laurus Nobilis Music Famalicão – back then, with only one day dedicated to metal (see here). It would take them two more years/editions until they went full metal and fill the bill with only the kind of bands we most like. And then in 2020 COVID happened. 

Like so many other festivals and concerts in general, the festival was forced to postpone its edition, and if it had been possible to make it in 2021, the bill would have be the same. But for the same reason it wasn’t and for 2022 it suffered some major changes, like headliners As I Lay Dying not making it. On the other hand, it was the right opportunity for legendary Manowar to step in and include Portugal on their farewell tour – a country where they have a legion of fans and haven’t played in quite a while. That combined with all the other bands, our guess is that it’s going to be a blast of a return.

New Behemoth album coming in September

The legendary Polish blackened death metal band Behemoth have just announced that their new album, the follow up to ‘I Loved You At Your Darkest’ will be entitled ‘Opvs Contra Natvram’. Here’s what their front-man Nergal had to say about it:

“The album title means ‘going against the current’. It’s the negative of the values and morals and ethics that I, Nergal, stand against. I’ve seriously been wrestling with destructive tendencies in pop culture – cancel culture, social media, and tools which I feel are very dangerous weapons in the hands of people who are not competent to judge others. That’s something which I find very destructive and disturbing – and extremely limiting coming from an artists’ perspective.

This album is my middle finger to that.“

New Lord of the Lost EP coming next month

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett’s solo EP coming soon

Kirk Hammett the legendary guitarist of world renowned heavy metal outfit Metallica has recently announced that he will be releasing his debut instrumental EP ‘Portals’ this spring. Here’s a statement from the artist:

“The initial concept for Portals started with that one song. Following that, I realized I could create different soundtrack moments. These songs are what I call ‘Audio Cinematic;’ I’m creating sounds and pieces of music for the movies playing in my head. Hopefully they’ll create movies in other people’s heads in a similar fashion.“

New Hate album coming next month

Polish blackened death metal band Hate have a new album coming next month called ‘Rugia’. This will be the band’s first album to feature their new drummer Daniel Rutkowski aka Nir-Sil (Neolith, Redemptor, Virgin Snatch) who replaced Pavulon after he was forced to leave to due to serious health problems.

The title refers to an old word for a German island on the Baltic sea currently known as Rügen. Here’s what their front-man Adam the First Sinner had to say about their latest opus:

“Generally, all the songs on the album are dedicated to the ancient Slavic world – great migrations, wars, battles, and the struggle for survival. But there is also a philosophical level to it, which is very important. Slavic mythology is a collection of universal stories touching upon fundamental issues that we all encounter in our lives. Therefore it is a frame that allows me to write about contemporary problems that I encounter myself from a different perspective. Along the way, I discovered my pagan soul and I encourage people to do the same. I think everybody has this deeper, more profound identity based on understanding our unity with nature, something that goes beyond all the civilizations we have built.”

Vengeant release second single

Here’s something for fans of symphonic metal. Swedish symphonic metal group Vengeant have just released their latest single called ‘The Unreal’. This is the second single following ‘Angel’s Battle Cry’ which came out back in February 2021.

The band was formed at the start of this year and their line-up includes: Danae Komodromou (vocals), Alfred Fridhagen (drums) and Dennis Eriksson (rhythm guitar). Despite the limited number of new music releases, they have already gained a massive following on a variety of social media.

Bodom After Midnight EP coming this spring

New single from Vengeant out now

Something for fans of symphonic metal. The Swedish symphonic metal band Vengeant have recently released their first ever single entitled ‘Angel’s Battle Cry’.

The band was formed in 2019 by bassist, lead guitarist and composer Christoffer Holm. They cite Magic: the Gathering as a influence on their music.
