Enforcer
Death By Fire
Released 1st February 2013
Heavy Metal
Released via Nuclear Blast

Dominating the Swedish metal scene for almost a decade, Enforcer have proven that old school metal isn’t dead yet. With two albums already under their belts, Death By Fire, which is the band’s latest album, is due to be released through Nuclear Blast next month.

I’m not familiar with Enforcer’s previous material and I’m not going to pretend that I am either. Death By Fire really did take me by surprise as the last “old school” Swedish metal album I listened to was basically a copycat version of Iron Maiden. Passing on from the eerie introductory track that is Bells Of Hades, Enforcer’s Death By Fire takes you on a rollercoaster ride of neck breaking tracks and 80’s styled metal, in the same vein as bands like Judas Priest and Saxon, only with more speed and fury. Some of the tracks have infectious choruses and melodies which feature prominently while some of the other tracks take a slight change in musical direction but still wail out the old school influences. Take Me Out Of This Nightmare is definitely a favourite of mine on the album due to the memorable hook and catchy lyrics. Crystal Suite offers a break from the vocals and instead offers up a palate of fast and furious musicianship. Another track that I find to stand out is Death Rides This Night because of the typically classic sounding vocal work and the violent onslaught of percussion and guitars that would no doubt causes faces to be melted at the right volume.

Sacrificed has a gentler yet more majestic approach in the opening few bars before the fierce snarling guitar playing kicks in like a bulldog with anger management issues. Another track that caught my attention was Satan, not because of the name but because of howling fiery energy that just explodes with each lyric, each riff and each hit of the drums. Seven the solo has a vehement turbulence that just wants to burst out and smash things up. The album finishes with A Break From Tradition and it is quite literally a break from the band’s traditional sound. The melo-death sound of the song really is a wake up call for the listener – in this case, a damned brutal one.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m not familiar with Enforcer’s previous material but after hearing Death By Fire, I really wish I was familiar with their music now. The album offers up a grand feast of truly classic riffs and hooks, as well as vocals that rival the likes of Judas Priest’s Rob Halford or Manowar’s Eric Adams and has enough thrills to keep your ears on the edge of the proverbial seat.

Posted in News with tags , , , on 19th December 2012 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

In anticipation of their new studio album Death By Fire (due to be released by 4th February 2013), Enforcer have released a free download of their new track Mesmerized By Fire.

Click here to download the track.

On January, 18th Mesmerized By Fire will also be released on a limited vinyl version – the tracklist is as follows:

A: Mesmerized By Fire
B:  You Can Be (non album track)

Olof Wikstrand comments:  Mesmerized by Fire is more or less the title track from the Death By Fire album. I think within four minutes it captures pretty much everything about Enforcer:  intensity and power mixed with a touch of melody and melancholy. The B-side is a cover of Nagazaki‘s You Can Be. It is a track with mega potential from a band that unfortunately never made it in the 80s.”

Enforcer sign to Nuclear Blast and announce new album for early 2013

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 30th November 2012 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

The Swedish Heavy Metal bloodbrothers, Enforcer, recently signed a new worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records and will release their new album Death By Fire on February 4th, 2013.

Enforcer are the leaders of the new generation of metal bands, cut from the roots of real metal, in spirit, in sound and in appearance.Bandleader, vocalist and guitar player Olof Wikstrand comments “It feels great to finally have finished this long awaited third ENFORCER record. Now with Nuclear Blast on board we’re gonna make sure to spread it to every corner of this planet. You can expect nothing but the total, self-defining Enforcer record.

Formed in 2004 in Arvika, Sweden the band released their debut album Into The Night in late 2008.The record bucked the trend of overproduced, clean plastic albums with tons of tracks and triggered drums. Into The Night was a pure metal record, in the grand tradition of acts such as Exciter, Agent Steel and Anvil. Musically, Death By Fire refines the sound of the previous two records – more focused, with strong melodies, outstanding riffs and a voice as strong as steel.

“The album title refers to the most horrific ways to die”, says Olof . “All lyrics on Death By Fire hold the same theme throughout the record: death – in all different shapes.

Once again, the album has less than 40 minutes of playing time – an Enforcer trademark: “We write all music for the vinyl format and a normal LP can never be longer than 19 minutes on each side without losing sound quality. None of my favourite records are longer than 39 minutes anyway. The record is made for listening to as an entirety and when it’s over the listener should be craving for more, not less. We don’t write any fillers.”

Olof sums it up : “We decided to do the ultimate Enforcer record rather than trying to break new ground. Take all elements that make us stand out from all other bands of today and exaggerate it 1000 times. Behold… DEATH BY FIRE!”
Be excited. Be very excited.

Earache acquires US metal label

Posted in News with tags , , , , on 17th July 2012 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

British extreme metal record label Earache Records has acquired US label Heavy Artillery Records, combining two of the premier forces in metal music.

Currently celebrating 25 years in the business, Earache Records has been the home to some of the biggest names in metal, and continues to push forwards with some of the best new and up-and-coming talents.

Heavy Artillery was founded in New York and has consistently stood for quality thrash and heavy metal, with releases from the likes of MERCILESS DEATH, ENFORCER, EXMORTUS, VEKTOR, SPELLCASTER and more.

Earache Records Label Manager Dan Tobin comments: “Heavy Artillery’s policy of signing and supporting fresh new talent was something I personally bought into very early on – raw, energetic, passionate early releases like Merciless Death, Enforcer and Exmortus really stood out as genuinely exciting new bands pursuing their visions of what heavy metal should be, not just jumping on a bandwagon and hoping for a quick route to success.  The label’s roster stood out as the work of people with music in mind, and with bands like Vektor creating serious buzz, it seemed that Heavy Artillery would enjoy the success its early creativity and chance-taking deserved.  Now that Earache is charged with upholding an impressive legacy of releases, as well as embracing the future output of these fantastic bands, I feel like it’s a really exciting time to be involved with young, hungry bands who have the potential to become the leading lights of the next few years.  We aim to ensure that the seeds sown by Heavy Artillery grow and produce fertile metal music for years to come.

Earache intends to continue Heavy Artillery’s vision, beginning with re-issues of Swedish heavy metallers ENFORCER’s 2008 debut album, INTO THE NIGHT, followed by the two studio albums from Arizona thrashers VEKTOR – 2009’s BLACK FUTURE and 2011’s OUTER ISOLATION.  Earache will also re-issue ENFORCER’s 2010 album, DIAMONDS, in the USA.

For a taste of what’s to come, listen to Vektor‘s “Tetrastructural Minds” from Outer Isolation below.

More releases from the Heavy Artillery catalogue will be announced in the near future.
