Rival Sons introduce new bassist Dave Beste

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 15th March 2014 by Nico Davidson

After recently completely the work on their fourth studio album at LCS Studios in Nashville, Rival Sons have announced the addiiton to their line-up of their new bassist Dave Beste. Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Dave Beste moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to pursue music professionally, and has previously performed with the likes of Maroon 5 and Rocco Deluca And The Burden among others.  Beste has been touring with Rival Sons since last August following the departure of Robin Everhart, and plays on the band’s new album, due to be released this summer on Earache Records. Rival Sons frontman Jay Buchanan comments:

Personnel change in a band this tight can be a very worried thing.  Suddenly, you have to reprogram yourself from hearing and doing things in a familiar way in order to move forward, sink into and appreciate the new.  That ‘new’ is Dave Beste and he’s been completely killing it.  A close friend of mine for many years, Beste committed wholeheartedly to helping us out when we were in a tight spot and it didn’t take long to see that the fit couldn’t be more natural.  Also, I can’t wait for people to hear his playing on this new record because he delivered in spades.  So, now it is official.  Bonafide.  Dave Beste is a Rival Son.

New bassist Dave Beste also comments:

I’m thrilled to be joining Rival Sons as a member.  Getting to travel with your buddies and play in a band you already dig is a really special thing.  I couldn’t be happier they asked me to join them in this endeavor.

New Savage Messiah track streaming online

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on 13th January 2014 by Nico Davidson

London metallers Savage Messiah have posted a new song from their upcoming album The Fateful Dark, which is set for release on 10th March in Europe via Earache and 18th March in North American via Century Media and Earache.

Savage Messiah, who were recently banned from entering the Freemason UK headquarters in London for a photo shoot after the society deemed the band’s name offensive, are releasing three instant grat tracks on iTunes which can be downloaded in advance of the album’s release.

The new track, called Minority of One, is available now as an instant grat download and can be heard below, along with a previously-released track, Cross of Babylon.  A further track, Hellblazer, will be available as an instant grat download on iTunes on 10th February. Savage Messiah frontman Dave Silver comments:

The title for this song comes from a famous saying by Ghandi, who said that even if you’re in a minority of one, the truth is the truth.  Which is a good message to people about breaking the mould and not getting sucked into ‘group think’ mentality.  Standing up for what’s objectively right and not compromising for the sake of social acceptance.  Musically, this is my favourite Savage Messiah track ever; we’ve managed to marry the thrash and heavy metal elements into a cohesive track, which is catchy and melodic, but still fast and thrashy.  Enjoy!

Savage Messiah banned from United Grand Lodge

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 24th December 2013 by Nico Davidson

British metallers Savage Messiah found themselves banned from the United Grand Lodge of England, the oldest Masonic Grand Lodge in the world, after attempting to hire the building for a photo shoot. The reason behind the banning was that the Freemasons find the band’s name to be offensive, citing:

There are concerns over the group’s name and we have to be conscious of our members.

Savage Messiah’s third album, The Fateful Dark, which is to be released on 10th March 2014, thematically covers some of the rituals and controversy of the that surrounds the secret society of Freemasonry. Cross of Babylon, the third track makes reference to a highly secretive Masonic ritual called The Red Cross of Babylon, whilst the eye-catching album artwork, as seen above, depicts themes of greed, power and corruption alongside Masonic iconography. Savage Messiah frontman Dave Silver said:

Once more the dubiously hypocritical nature of religious groups has reared its head. We’ve been denied access to a building due to our apparently “offensive” name. I’m assuming that the word “Savage” is the root of the consternation in question. This I find amusing from a group of people that adhere to a book that promotes Slavery, Genocide and celebrates a single human sacrifice as if it had any baring what so ever in the eradication of “sin” or whatever that is supposed to be. If the band was called “arse-fucked Messiah” I might understand their concern, however the very nature of the biblical myths is based on the most savage of human behaviours. Ironically most Christian churches depict the effigy of a brutal murder, the most violent of image of a man strung up, maimed, humiliated and sacrificed, yet us long haired, peace loving, free-thinking heavy metal louts are too “Savage” to enter a building… Such is the way of the world!

Savage Messiah release their second album via Earache Records entitled The Fateful Dark available on CD and limited edition coloured vinyl and has been available for pre-order since 6pm GMT on Friday 20th December, at the following locations:

Former Evile guitarist Ol Drake signs worldwide deal with Earache Records

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on 12th December 2013 by Nico Davidson

British guitar wizard, Ol Drake, who is best known for his work with Yorkshire thrash lords Evile, recently inked a worldwide, mutli-album recording deal with Earache Records. Ol Drake is currently working on his debut solo album, which is due to be released in 2014 under the project name of Old Rake and is set to include a number of guest musicians. Ol Drake comments:

Very excited to announce signing a solo deal with Earache Records.  I established a great friendship with the guys at Earache over the years while I was with Evile and I was happy to hear they wanted to work with me in a solo capacity.  This will be a studio project entitled Old Rake.  I won’t be touring, and I’m thankful to Earache for being understanding of this and for giving me this opportunity; I wouldn’t rule out doing a few clinics here and there though.

I’ve always been inspired by Steve Vai, and I’ve always wanted to do something in a similar approach orientated around metal with injections of other styles and ideas which interest me.  After recently seeing the film Not Dead Yet about the amazing and inspiring genius, Jason Becker, it really kicked me into gear to do something with my playing; music is all I can really do, so I’m thankful for the opportunity and ability to still create music for people to hear.  Looking forward to getting the music out there.

Ol Drake made his name as lead guitarist for Huddersfield thrashers Evile, during which time the band released four critically-acclaimed albums, scored a top 10 album in the UK Rock charts, toured around the world with such high-profile bands as Megadeth, and won numerous accolades including a prestigious Metal Hammer Golden God award.

In 2010, Ol Drake was asked to join Australian comedian/musician Tim Minchin on stage at the UK’s Sonisphere Festival to help perform his track, Rock N Roll Nerd, and in 2012 was nominated in the Dimebag Darrell Shredder Award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods, alongside the likes of Devin Townsend and Fear Factory‘s Dino Cazares.

Ol Drake leaves Evile

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 30th August 2013 by Nico Davidson

Ol Drake has announced that he’s leaving Yorkshire thrash unit Evile. His full statement can be read below:

It’s been half my life (15 years) since I started jamming in a room with three other guys, in a group in which I didn’t know would grow to be Evile, go through what Evile has gone through and achieve what Evile has so far achieved.

Since 1999, I’ve put 100% of my time and life into the band we formed, while us all had/have to sacrifice a lot financially and personally along the way.

I’ve had some of the best times of my life in the past 15 years and met some amazing and fascinating people. I’ve had the huge honour to play a part in so many things I’d never have dreamed of: paying tribute to Dimebag [Pantera] by covering Cemetery Gates in Metal Hammer; supporting Megadeth, Exodus and many bands I grew up listening to; playing and recording with Destruction; touring/seeing places in the world I’d never have got to see otherwise and many more.

Over the past year, I’ve, unfortunately, found myself becoming more and more detached from the touring/band lifestyle.

In my opinion, the music business for a band of our genre and ‘level’ determines a very unrealistic way of life to me, and I personally find it difficult to make a living and have a ‘normal’ life. This is not a plea for sympathy, I’m simply being honest.

I’ve reached a point where I want a family/kids, a house, a steady and definite income and everything in between, and in regard to my personal preferences, a touring band’s income and uncertainties, in the state that I feel they would continue to be in, has become incompatible with how I feel and what I want/need.

There is no animosity between the rest of the band and I. This is purely a personal and financial decision I’ve been mulling over for a while and I wish them all the best for the future. “I am not unappreciative of the position Evile has in the music world; I know a lot of people would love to be where Evile are.

I want to thank each and every person who supports the band, and I want to extend a special thanks to Digby and the Earache Records crew.

Huge apologies to anyone this disappoints, but I have to do what makes sense to me.

I am not quitting writing or playing; I do plan on continuing to record and write my own music (solo project, general composing/recording etc), I just won’t be touring etc.

I’ll still be playing the two upcoming festival shows Evile have.

You can keep up to date with what I’ll be doing on my Twitter or on Facebook. A big thank you to everyone!

Evile released their fourth album Skull on 27th May in Europe on Earache Records and in North America via Century Media/Earache Records. The follow-up to 2011’s Five Serpent’s Teeth was once again recorded with producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir) at Parlour Studios in Kettering, England. The artwork for the album was painted by artist Eliran Kantor (Testament, Sodom, Hatebreed).

The More I See release video for The Eye That Offends

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 16th July 2013 by Nico Davidson

British metal band The More I See have recently released their first official music video for the track, The Eye That Offends, which was filmed on the set of Star Wars in Northern Africa.

TMIS drove for six hours across the Tunisian desert to shoot the video, performing at three iconic sets from the Star Wars movies – remarkably still standing years after being abandoned, preserved in the arid desert heat.  The result is a visually stunning spectacle that perfectly compliments the band’s energetic performance. TMIS frontman James Cluer comments:

I’m a massive fan of Star Wars, so to visit Tunisia and film at some of the greatest film locations ever was really special.  It was such an incredible experience to perform at the mighty canyons of the Jundland Wastes (Episode IV: A New Hope), where Luke Skywalker and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO first meet Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as the city of Mos Espa (Episode I: The Phantom Menace), and especially Luke Skywalker‘s home – Lars homestead (Episode IV: A New Hope).  It was a childhood dream of mine to see the igloo, and to get to film there with the sun setting behind us was something I’ll never forget!

TMIS have also released a three-track EP exclusively on Spotify.  Listen to “The Eye That Offends EP” now at this location. The Eye That Offends is taken from The More I See‘s new studio album, The Disappearing Humans, which is due to be released on 26th August in Europe on Earache Records, and on 1st October in the USA via Century Media/Earache Records.  The album was mixed by producer Scott Atkins (Sylosis, Behemoth, Savage Messiah) and mastered at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios with Steve Rooke (The Beatles).

British metal band The More I See film first music video on Star Wars set

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 13th July 2013 by Nico Davidson

British metallers TMIS (The More I See) are due to release their first ever music video on Monday, which was filmed on the set of the legendary Star Wars movies in Northern Africa.

TMIS drove for six hours across the Tunisian desert to shoot the video for their track, The Eye That Offends, performing at three iconic sets from the hugely popular movies – remarkably still standing years after being abandoned, preserved in the arid desert heat.

The video for The Eye That Offends was filmed with director Phil Berridge of Creative Junkie Media and is due to premiere on Vevo on July 15th.  To coincide with the release of the video, TMIS will also be releasing a three-track EP exclusively on Spotify.  Look out for the EP and video this coming Monday.

The Eye That Offends is taken from The More I See‘s new studio album, The Disappearing Humans, which is due to be released on 26th August in Europe on Earache Records, and on 1st October in the USA via Century Media/Earache Records.  The Disappearing Humans was mixed by producer Scott Atkins (Sylosis, Behemoth, Savage Messiah) and mastered at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios with Steve Rooke (The Beatles).
