‘Aceldama’ is the new EP from the Birmingham based, British hard rock band of the same name. It is a follow-up to their 2009 debut album ”Seduce, Deceive & Lead Astray’.

The opening track ‘I Am’ offers a promising start to the album thanks to a good guitar solo. The song’s main focus seems to be on the guitar riffs which work well with the radio- friendly female vocals. ‘Faith in Me’ pretty much picks up where the previous two tracks left off; only this time the guitars are more melodic and the focus shifts to the vocals.

Speaking of the vocals, the singer’s voice reminds me of Cristina from Lacuna Coil. This similarity is particularly evident in the melodic tracks such as ‘What Has Gone Before’ and ‘Collision’. ‘I Tried’ however is an entirely different animal due to its nu-metal style guitar intro and randomly placed, progressive guitar riffs. Luckily the vocals and other melodic parts towards the second half of the song act as its redeeming features.

The melancholic piano version of ‘Breakdown’ may not be what you’d expect from a hard rock band, but it works well as the final chapter of the EP.
