Warbringer unveil new album artwork and further details announced

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 6th September 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

LA’s metal monsters Warbringer are back with their fourth studio offering, programmatically entitled IV: Empires Collapse. The band have also confirmed the new street date for the album’s release as 28th October in Europe and 29th October in North America via Century Media.

IV: Empires Collapse, the studio recording debut for former Mantic Ritual members Jeff Potts (Guitar) and Ben Mottsman (Bass) rounding off Warbringer’s five-piece line-up, was recorded with producer Steve Evetts (Sepultura, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence), mixed by Brett Eliason (Pearl Jam, Heart, BoySetsFire) and mastered by Alan Douches/West West Side Music (Cannibal Corpse, Hatebreed, Converge). The album’s cover artwork, which can be seen above, was designed by Adrienne Rozzi.

The band checked in to comment about the artwork as follows:

The artwork for Empires Collapse came about from wanting to take a much more focused and simplistic approach. Previous Warbringer album covers are extremely detailed, busy works, so it was a conscious decision to have art that was the antithesis of what we had done before. John Laux came up with the concept, so we had our friend Adrienne Rozzi make up a sketch, which led to us having her follow through with the final piece. It’s incredibly different from what most fans would expect for a Warbringer album cover, but we wanted the art to visually reflect the music. The piece reminds me of a Tarot Card illustration and sets a very cryptic, somber vibe which associates well with the music that ties into the album’s title.

Sepultura reveal artwork and tracklisting for new album

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on 28th August 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Brazilian metal icons Sepultura have unveiled the artwork (see above), title and tracklisting for their new album; which is to be titled The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart. Bit of a mouthful, eh? Anyway, the new album is set for release on 28th October via Nuclear Blast. The cover artwork was created by Brazilian artist Alexandre Wagner who specialises in charcoal drawing techniques.

In preparing the statements below, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser and artist Alexandre Wagner collaborated with Brazilian journalist Emanuel Leite, Jr. to gather their thoughts.

In this statement, Kisser reveals how he discovered Alexandre:

It was an indication of Silvio Bibika, who was my roadie for a long time. He always shows me things in general that Sepulutra might need. He told me about Alexandre – who is from Belo Horizonte [in Brazil, where Sepulutra was founded] – a year ago. So before we went to the United States to record the album, I was at his house to talk about the cover, tell him the album title, and talk about the concept of the film Metropolis so he could do something original. But when I saw the picture with the drawing, I thought it was all about what we wanted and we did not need something new.  I also asked him to do a tribal ‘S’ in the cover’s style, which will be on the back cover.

Album artist Alexandre Wagner comments on his creation:

This series of work in charcoal drawing [for the album] I did when I still lived in Belo Horizonte. They were all made there and are quick drawings without much reference, almost an experimentation that may have come from a desire to use the most basic of basic materials – coal, paper and wood. The cover design was ready, Andreas saw and liked it. We talked a little more and I also sent some other pictures for the booklet. I was pleased with the choice of the theme of the album; I like [Austrian filmmaker] Fritz Lang very much and not to mention only Metropolis, but Dr. Mabuse der Spieler [Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, Lang’s 1922 film] is a fucking movie!

The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart will be released as a Limited Edition Digipak CD/DVD and on Double Vinyl.

Eyes Set To Kill release “Behind The Scenes” video for forthcoming album Masks

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 5th August 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

During in the time that lead upto the pre-production of their upcoming album Masks, Eyes Set To Kill decided to not worry about expectations and just demo two of their strongest new songs: True Colors and Nothing Left To Say. As a result of the two anthemic, catchy songs, the band landed a deal with Century Media Records. Guitarist, singer and songwriter Alexia Rodriguez commented:

Those two songs served as a blueprint for the entire record. When we were writing, I didn’t try to do what everybody else does. We didn’t need to throw a ton of riffs into one song or get overly technical. I wanted to make music that was catchy.

With that train of though, the band retreated to a studio in South California with renowned producer Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Sepultura). During that process, Alexia evolved hugely as the band’s main songwriter and the band’s sound expanded because of this. For the first time, Cisko added staggering screams and vocals, building the harmonies and everything became amplified from the heaviness to the hooks.

A sneak preview of the recording process can be viewed below:

Masks will be in released 23rd September via Century Media Records in Europe and Australia/NZ.

Soulfly release first video update for upcoming studio album

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 9th July 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Soulfly have posted their first video update for their upcoming untitled ninth studio album. The album was produced by Terry Date (Pantera, Deftones, Soudngarden) and is the first album to feature Max Cavalera’s 21 year old son, Zyon, on drums. The video update can be viewed below.

As if there was a more metal way to come into the world, Zyon’s heartbeat in utero served as the intro to Sepultura’s 1993 classic RIAA-gold-certified record Chaos A.D. Max would depart Sepultura soon after the release of Roots in 1996. Ever since the band’s gold-certified debut in 1998, Soulfly have become deadlier and more dangerous with each critically acclaimed successive release, and their upcoming album will be no exception. Expect a release tentatively in the Fall of this year via Nuclear Blast.

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 19th June 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Dave Lombardo, former drummer for thrash legends Slayer will be featured on the upcoming album by Brazilian–American thrashers Sepultura. In his newest update on Brazilian newspaper Pernambuco.com, guitarist Andreas Kisser tells the entire story about how Lombardo got be featured on his band’s new album by ‘accident’.

Lombardo, who was having some quality time with his kids and dog by the beach near to the studio where Sepulutrua are recording the new album together with sound guru Ross Robinson (Machine Head, Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Fear Factory), told Robinson about his whereabouts which lead Ross to ask him if he wanted to guest on the recording. Guitarist Kisser comments:

He came and it was so nice, so special, so awesome! He is one of the nicest guys in business and he enjoyed the idea a lot. Ross and Mike prepared two drum sets on the living room, facing each other, no cymbals, just tribal drums! When the mics were all ready and running Eloy and Dave started playing and the magic was on, so great! The part they recorded will be a special part on the middle of one of the songs, it came out crazy!
