Pinkish Black to release Razed To The Ground in September via Century Media

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 5th August 2013 by Nico Davidson

Originally rallying under the banner of The Great Tyrant in 2005 with the vision of setting a new definition for the word heavy, the trio became a duo following the passing of bassist Tommy Atkins, the darker macabre entity that has become known as Pinkish Black appeared on the scene, comprised of Daron Beck on vocals and synths and drummer Jon Teague.  Vocalist Daron comments:

Jon and I have been playing music for over 2 decades. The whole process of getting to this point in our lives and our music has been very much a repeating cycle of building to inevitably tear down to build again to tear down and so on… it’s how all life is. Building, destroying, building, destroying…

Razed to the Ground was recorded and mixed at The Echo Lab by Matt Brenhart and mastered by James Plotkin. The songs themselves pierce the same vein as the band’s earlier material; death rock, post-punk, doom, and electronic elements slither over and under one another.

Razed to the Ground will see a 16th September release date in Europe from Century Media Records. Check out the album cover above and track listing below:

Razed To The Ground track listing:

  1. She Left Him Red
  2. Ashtray Eyes
  3. Kites and Vultures
  4. Razed to the Ground
  5. Bad Dreamer
  6. Rise
  7. Loss of Feeling of Loss

ReVamp announce release dates for second album

Posted in Featured, News with tags , , , , , , , , , on 8th May 2013 by Nico Davidson

Dutch metal band ReVamp – who are fronted by Floor Jansen, who recently accompanied Nightwish on their world tour – have announced the release dates for their second album, which is to be released via Nuclear Blast. The album will hit mainland Europe first on 6th September, followed by the UK on 9th September, Japan on 12th September and finally the US on 17th September. Vocalist Floor comments:

Never before in my career I faced a situation like the one we were in with this album. It was a huge challenge because of several reasons. My sickness caused a major break between the first album and tours plus the writing of the first ideas for the second album and the actual finalization of those songs and the album. And right at the moment we started to pick everything back up after I was sick I joined Nightwish. Like a winter and a summer storm, they bring unexpected things, some nasty ones and some amazingly wonderful!

Also the recording of this album was unlike any I did before because I was on tour with Nightwish most of the time. Guided by Joost van den Broek (ex-After Forever, songwriter first for the ReVamp album) the talented musicians of ReVamp recorded all the instruments and when I came back to The Netherlands I stepped into the studio to find a rough diamond. A shiny dark crystal: ready for my vocals. That was magical! The singing went smoother than ever before. The lyrics are like a roadmap through our storms and through my personal detours and horrors.

The result of this trial will be released on album in September 2013. With pride we can announce our partner in crime from the first album will again join forces with us! Metal and rock giant Nuclear Blast will again make sure ReVamp’s new album reaches YOUR music collection wherever you are on this metal loving planet!

WeCameFromWolves – Cope

Posted in Review with tags , , , , on 21st July 2012 by Nico Davidson

WeCameFromWolves
Cope
Released: September 2012
Post-Rock
Released via Engineer Records

WeCameFromWolves are one of many bands lurking in the unspoken-of-Scottish music scene. The band are described as being all about harmonic, melodic soundscapes and euphoric choruses. It was only recently that the band signed to Engineer Records with their debut EP due for release in September.

The melodic opening of Cope, the title track, begins the EP is truly memorable fashion as the riff is one of those that will stay in your head for a long time, for better or for worse. The vocals are typically Biffy Clyro sounding (or maybe I’m just being ignorant because of the strong Scottish accent that rings out from the vocals, yet the accent really does go well with the music). Like the opening riff, the vocal melodies are memorable. Crosses has a different intro to what I was expecting, being composed of sounds I don’t quite recognise mixed in with some rocker-like riffs and other influences giving the song a fresh taste. The vocals sound ever more energetic and lively (and less like Biffy Clyro!). The riffs have a strange, lively jig to them – the kind that gets your foot tapping along to the rhythm.

The middle point of the EP is Blood, which is another track booming with life, hypnotic riffs and enchanting vocals. Tidals strays away from the overall sound of the EP, taking a slower approach to the music but it still contains some amount of energy that prevents the track from becoming too dull and boring. The gloomy sounding intro of For All Our Sins, We’re Golden begins the end of the EP before turning more upbeat but retaining that solemn essence that is carried well by the lyrics.

I’ll be honest, this was the first first I’ve listened to any form of post-rock and I am impressed. WeCameFromWolves are clearly a talented band and they bring their own distinct sound to the table in a world where music is becoming too generic sounding.
