Rival Sons release video compiled of fan footage

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 27th April 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Rival Sons have released a video for their latest single, Wild Animal, compiled from footage sent in from their fans.

The band, who recently returned home from a near sell-out European headlining tour, held a competition asking their fans around the world to send in clips of their own creative interpretations of the song.  The winning entries were chosen by the band and put together to make the official fan video. Rival Sons drummer Michael Miley comments:

So check it out.  Before our recent European tour, we asked our fans to submit 20 sec clips for the song Wild Animal off our latest album Head Down.  What a riot it was going through these!  Now, we present to you the culmination of our fans’ (all your!) hard work and creativity on the ‘Official Wild Animal Fan Clip’.  We’re always interested in encouraging creativity and so many of our fans worldwide totally put real time and effort into these clips; the entries were awesome and far exceeded our expectations!  Yo!  Rival ‘Sons and Daughters’: you’ve outdone yourselves!  We’re gonna have to set the bar higher for the next one haha!  We want to thank you all for the entries, and also all your support on our recent European tour – man, you guys are awesome.

Rival Sons announce limited edition Record Store Day UK vinyl

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on 11th March 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Rival Sons have revealed that they will once again be offering a limited edition vinyl release for this year’s Record Store Day in the UK and Europe, which takes place on Saturday, April 20th.

Founded in 2007 and officially kicked off in 2008 by Metallica, Record Store Day takes place on the third Saturday of every April and brings together artists and independently-owned record stores around the world to celebrate the art of music.  Special vinyl and CD released and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and sold in independent stores.

To celebrate Record Store Day UK 2013, Earache Records and Rival Sons will be releasing an exclusive 10″ vinyl picture disc, strictly limited to 1000 copies.  The picture disc will feature the following tracks:

SIDE A
01. Manifest Destiny Pt. 1 (Live in Gothenburg)
SIDE B
01. Manifest Destiny Pt. 2 (Acoustic Version)
02. Nava (Full Length Version)

Rival Sons guitarist Scott Holiday comments: “As we’ve talked about quite often, all the band are big vinyl junkies.  Travelling all over the globe, it’s exciting to see how many people around the world are becoming enlivened by this vinyl trend – as they should!  Vinyl is finding its place once again and improving the way we listen to and enjoy music.  Living in the digital age, we’ve begun to realize how much quality and sonic experience we sacrifice for convenience, and how much is gained from hearing a recording sounding closer to the product we (as musicians and recording artists) intended to be enjoyed.  That said, we’re always excited to deliver something cool for Record Store Day, and this one coming up is one of my personal favorites.” He continues: “With all the response we’ve received for the Manifest Destiny tracks, we’ve decided to offer up something special: a very limited run on 10″ dual-sided picture vinyl… Side A will be an inspired live version of Manifest Destiny Pt. 1, live from Gothenburg, Sweden, recorded on our last European tour, playing to a sold out theatre of very excited Swedes!  Side B will be an acoustic interpretation of Manifest Destiny Pt. 2, mixing our love for Eastern and Native Indian flavors.  Side B will also present the full length arrangement for my instrumental tune, Nava. What more could there be, you ask?!  Well, we had a friend of ours create comic book style covers for the front and back of the jacket.  The front depicting Pt. 1 and the back depicting Pt. 2.  This release is very close to my heart, and something I think our fans will really dig.  Limited to only 1000 copies… So get ’em while the gettin’s gettin’!

Rival Sons announce UK tour

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on 16th January 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

After a successful 2012, including being voted  Planet Rock’s New Band of the Year, scooping up Breakthrough Artist at last year’s Classic Rock awards, and releasing a top 20 album, Rival Sons return to the UK this April, including dates at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Cardiff Solus. Tickets are on sale now priced at £12.50 (Cardiff) and £14 (London) (subject to booking fee) from this location or from TicketMaster.

Rival Sons are a raucous, maximum-blues-infused, rock ‘n’ roll band, who explode with the rhythm and thrill of some of the greatest rock acts of all time. From their 2011 album Pressure & Time to last year’s breakthrough Head Down the strength of their live performances has gained the band major attention everywhere. Recent accolades include, a stint opening up for Guns ‘n’ Roses last year, plus legends like Judas Priest, AC/DC and Alice Cooper, and playing the likes of Download, Rock Am Ring, Sonisphere, T in the Park, to name a few.

Rival Sons’ intense work agenda (with an aim to release an album a year), plus their gruelling live schedule, have won the band a reputation for hard-graft. In the studio, the band commits themselves to creating an experience that closely matches the attitude and excitement of their live performance. Right off a four week stint on the road, Rival Sons wrote, recorded, and mixed the album in just twenty days; ensuring a rawness for both the listener and the band.

In October 2012, Rival Sons finished up their UK leg of the sold out “Head Down” tour with a fantastic show at the Electric Ballroom, introduced on stage by legendary presenter Bob Harris, and with Jimmy Page in the audience.
