Pieni’s highlights of 2016

Posted in Editorial/Opinionated, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 31st December 2016 by Pieni

This year it was really REALLY tough to choose just 5 shows (Sam Alone, The Mission and Heavenwood should also be there somewhere):

  1. Hills Have Eyes at Canecas Bar (Paços de Ferreira)
  2. Sonic Syndicate at Göta Källare (Stockholm)
  3. Moonspell at Pavilhão Multiusos (Guimarães)
  4. More Than A Thousand at Time Out Market (Lisboa)
  5. Testament at Coliseu (Porto)

The albums were easier:

  1. “Stand Up, Forward, March!” by Sister
  2. “Confessions” by Sonic Syndicate
  3. “Atoma” by Dark Tranquillity
  4. “When Patsy Cline Was Crazy…” by Ricky Warwick
  5. “Brotherhood Of The Snake” by Testament

My video top-5 is “lighter” than last year’s: two emotional, one a kind of tribute, and two funny as hell:

  1. “The Beat” by Satan Takes A Holiday
  2. “Make It Right” by Hills Have Eyes
  3. “I Apologize” by Five Finger Death Punch
  4. “The Great Disillusion” by Betraying The Martyrs
  5. “Call Me” by Pain

Anticipations/expectations for 2017:

  1. Infraktor – a “gourmet thrash metal” all-star project who I’m proud of being close to, hence keeping tabs on. Let’s see how others will receive them.
  2. Hills Have Eyes – saw some new pictures of the boys in the studio. Needless to say I’m thrilled.
  3. Equaleft – yep, something’s still brewing…
  4. Five Finger Death Punch – “Got Your Six” isn’t my favorite 5FDP album but it’s still good enough. Let’s see if what they’re up to now pleases me more.
  5. Guns N’ Roses – this is a live expectation. I’m having totally mixed feelings about this reunion. Not even sure if I’ll go to the Portugal show, so I’m also expectant on what my final decision will be…

Happy New Year peeps!

‘Famous Underground’ is a self-titled album from this Canadian hard rock band. This is the new project of Nick Walsh (ex-Slik Toxik, Revolver) and features Laurie-Anne Green on bass.

Straight from the offset you are in for some catchy hard rock with sleaze/glam rock style vocals and heavy guitar riffage. Think Guns’n’Roses meets Megadeth and you have a pretty good idea of what I’m referring to. Dead Weight is probably the best example of the band’s signature sound which comes complete with simple yet catchy choruses and hooky guitar melodies. There’s also some ballads such as the melodic rock style Forever And A Day.

The heavier, more metal sounding tracks like Necropolis remind me a little of Megadeth mostly due to the similarities in the vocal style. Another noteworthy track is the catchy, guitar solo infused Bullet Train, which is also leaning towards the “metal” direction.

Overall, this is a well produced and skillfully executed hard rock album. I have no doubt that it will appeal to fans of Slik Toxik and Nick Walsh’s other projects. If Megadeth or Guns’n’Roses rocks your boat then this album is for you.

The band consists of 4 members- Jamie on vocals, Tim on guitars and backing vocals, Rikki on bass and backing vocals, and Cari on drums and backing vocals- who combine the sounds of Punk, Glam, Rock, and Metal with an end result sounding something like the bastard child of GG Allin and Guns N’ Roses. Sister release Sonisphere video

Posted in News with tags , , , , on 31st August 2012 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Swedish sleaze and punk influenced metal band Sister recently filmed a video for the track Werewolves on Blackstreet during the band’s recent performance at this year’s Sonisphere Festival in Madrid, Spain. Shot and edited by Jimmy Johansson, Werewolves on Blackstreet highlights the band’s experience at the festival both on and off stage.

The band commented “The trip to Madrid and Sonisphere Festival was an awesome experience. We definitely had a fucking blast! To share the stage with giants like Slayer, Soundgarden, Limp Bizkit, The Offspring and Metallica is just wicked. Check out our video and catch some of the highlights from our travel. Sonisphere is indeed a great festival both on and off stage. We want to send out a big thanks to the festival organizers and to our Spanish fans! And of course Jimmy, son of K, Johansson for shooting and editing all of our stupidities. See you guys next time!
