Therion announce release of Theli deluxe package and three disc DVD set Adulruna Redivia And Beyond

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on 13th January 2014 by Nico Davidson

24th February will see the release of two – yes, two – Therion releases. The releases are the deluxe edition CD and DVD of their all-time classic Theli as well as a 3-DVD package (limited edition incl. bonus DVD) called Adulruna Redivia And Beyond.

Theli, which was released in 1996, is Therion’s fifth studio album and one of their most memorable releases. The album features the band’s most  legendary hit to date: To Mega Therion. It also features the band’s ten minute epic The Siren Of The Woods as well as the hymn Cults of the Shadow. The album also made use of two different choirs and guest vocalist Dan Swanö from Edge of Sanity.

The deluxe edition of Theli has three more bonus tracks: In Rememberance, Black Fairy and the Scorpions cover version Fly To The Rainbow as well as a bonus DVD with the entire album performed live.

Adulruna Redivia And Beyond is a double live DVD + bonus DVD, limited edition digipak. The two shows were recorded live in Atlanta in 2011 and in Budapest 2007. The band commented:

The concert recorded in Hungary was a concert on the “Adulruna Rediviva” 20 year Anniversary-Tour in December. The idea of the tour was to play the entire Theli album + a set consisting of songs that the fans had voted for on the band web page. Piotr Wawrzeniuk and our old friend Messiah Marcolin joined in to make this evening extra special. The concert in Atlanta was the band‘s only show in the USA since 2007 and was shot during the band‘s headline performance at the ProgPower festival 2011.

Hell unveil details on their new offering Curse And Chapter

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on 28th August 2013 by Nico Davidson

Risen from their own sinister legacy and having disbanded in 1987, Hell were reincarnated only two years ago with the addition of Andy Sneap to guitars and David Bower on vocals, joining original members guitarist and keyboardist Kev Bower, bassist Tony Speakman and drum machine Tim Bowler. Now the British quintet are about to release their follow up to their 2011 release Human Remains which was released via Nuclear Blast. The sophomore offering, titled Curse And Chapter, will also be released via Nuclear Blast on 25th November, later this year.

Curse And Chapter will also include a bonus DVD offering six songs from the band’s show at The Darwin Assembly Suite Rooms in Derby on 23rd February 2013. As the first lead-off single, Hell will release the Age Of Nefarious. Guitarist Sneap commented on the upcoming release:

We’ve been working solid on the album for the last couple of months between gigs, although we’ve been demoing to a good standard over the last year or so. This time around the album consists of around 50% old material 50% new. We really see this as a band that’s moving forward rather than a nostalgia trip, obviously there’s a lot of history within the band, but there’s also a whole world of ideas we want to get out. We have this week left tracking, 4 more vocals and bass to get down, 2 more songs of guitar and then mix. I’m super happy with how things are shaping up, it feels more like a band on this record to me than the first, which I guess is just a natural progression of everyone playing together a lot more over the last couple of years.

Vocalist David Bower added in, regarding the lyrical content:

Alongside some of our favourite themes of historical, political and religious persecution, intolerance and prejudice, you will find some good old fashioned myths and legends being invoked and reinterpreted in our own inimitable way. We also have some songs in which the listener will be implicitly invited to solve the clues contained in the lyrics in order to find the meaning of the stories for themselves. Being completely aware that many people interpret things in ways that writers do not expect as a matter of course, it seemed logical to take that idea a little further.

Adding on from that, Bower explains the album title:

It’s a hellish play on words of the English saying chapter and verse, and also a reference to a song lyric in The Age Of Nefarious, the opening track on the record.

Hell will also be playing the Metal Hammer ‘Defenders Of The Faith’ Tour alongside label mates Carcass and also Amon Amarth and Bleed From Within. Dates are as follow:

Nov 12 Birmingham o2 Academy
Nov 13 Manchester o2 Academy
Nov 14 Glasgow Barrowland
Nov 15 Bristol o2 Academy
Nov 17 London Forum

Dark metal band Foscor enter studio; Begin work on fourth album

Posted in Featured, News with tags , , , , , , on 11th March 2013 by Nico Davidson

Dark metallers Foscor are in the Nautilus Studios in Barcelona to begin recording their fourth full-length album. The new album, to be titled Those Horrors Wither, is the follow up to 2009’s Groans to the Guilty and marks an expansion in the band’s musical direction, away from the strict confines of black metal. Work has already started on the drum tracks, and Foscor will be posting regular updates and photos from the recording sessions on their Facebook page at this location.

With a current line-up that comprises Falke (Soul Aside, Fayrierie, ex-Lux Divina) and A.M. (ex-Vidres A La Sang) on guitars, Fiar (Melangia, Dawn Of Hate, Cabestro, live session vocalist for Graveyard) on bass and vocals, and Nechrist (ex-Shemhamphorash) on drums, FOSCOR was formed in Barcelona in 1997 and spent their first decade blending the best of ‘90’s Old School Black Metal with both traditional and modern extreme metal styles. With three full-length albums, three splits, and appearances on Katatonia and Enslaved tributes under their belts, the band released a live DVD in 2012 to commemorate their 10th Anniversary. But more than just a commemoration, the DVD also represents the end of one era for the band, whilst Those Horrors Wither, for which a label is being sought, represents the beginning of the next.

Commenting on the new direction, Foscor founders Falke and Fiar had this to say: “We have been developing our direction and sound since the very beginning, and now I think we have reached the stage where our musical abilities have increased to the extent where we can express ourselves fully though our music in the way we always wanted and we have truly come into our own. I don’t really know how you would classify the new direction, but we have expanded our musical horizons, dipping into doom, and even moments of prog, whilst keeping the claustrophobic black atmosphere. I guess you could say that the new album will be much more multi-dimensional. Fans who have been with us from the start will have probably had some kind of inkling as to the direction we will be taking, and we hope they will be very satisfied with what they are going to hear. There’s a lot of work yet to be done and we will try to keep everyone updated every step of the way. Darkness will speak again…

Foscor’s next live appearance will be on the 21st May at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona where they will support Godflesh at the Sala Apolo. More information about Foscor can be found on the band’s official website: http://www.foscor.com

Foscor’s entire set from their 2012 appearance at the Aurora Infernalis Festival in Arnhem can be seen below:

Rammstein to release video collection and new single

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 30th November 2012 by Nico Davidson

Sex and crime, blood and fire, monsters and mutations…

What sounds like a compendium of midnight movies is really just a collection of music videos. If we call them clips, at least Americans will think of the gun magazines they use to reload their weapons. That suits the explosive content.

With just a small creative core to set the agenda, Rammstein have consistently created stunning image sequences that are unparalleled internationally. Directors working with the band have demonstrated a clear sense of vision, tremendous courage, plus a unique refusal to compromise – and no box-set to date can attest to this as gloriously as the forthcoming box set, Videos 1995-2012 (editor’s note: You think they could have thought of a more creative title for the video collection), released through Spinefarm Records in the UK onDecember 17th 2012.

Almost a decade after the arrival of their first video retrospective, Lichtspielhaus (2003), an up-to-date and more complete picture of the band has finally emerged. While the clips show Rammstein in their purest form, a few lesser-known facts also come to light, primarily via the behind-the-flames footage from the individual shoots, plus the many interviews with the various people involved and of course the band members themselves.

A high point is the new clip for Mein Herz Brennt (My Heart Burns), lead track on the seminal Mutter album (2001), and the story behind it. So time-consuming was the promo to get right, that some of the band members started to see it as the ‘eternal video’, one they would be working on until their collective death. It ultimately took several attempts and the work of two directors to get this monumental piece off the ground.

Not only did this result in one of the most unusual videos in the history of a band notorious for their output in this area (Du Hast, Sonne, Links 2 3 4, Mein Teil, Mann Gegen Mann, Pussy, etc.); but as a reward for all the hard work, some extra footage was shot featuring front-man Till Lindemann in a solo performance of the ‘piano version’ of Mein Herz Brennt – the clip will premiere on the Rammstein website onDecember 7th 2012.

This ‘piano version’ of the song will be released as a singlevia Spinefarm UK on December 10th 2012; the single will be available on7” vinyl & CD Maxi, with both formats featuring the previously unreleased studio recording, Gib Mir Deine Augen.

Videos 1995 – 2012, meanwhile, is available as a Digi-pack Box Set with 3 DVDs or two Blu-ray discs; all 25 videos, including the makings-of (24), have been recently  updated – a full eight hours of official content complete with a detailed, 56-page booklet plus lenticular cover.

With this box set, Rammstein presents itself in all its glory: larger than life, larger than Hollywood.
