Treblinka set to release official recordings in October

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on 19th August 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

Century Media Records have proudly announced that they will be having the honour of releasing the first ever “official recordings” of Treblinka, one of the most notorious bands in the extreme metal world. The band were founded in 1987 by Johan “Lucifer Hellslaughter Edlund and Jörgen “Juck the Ripper” Thullberg.

During their short existence, that spanned a total of two years, Treblinka released a grand total of two demos and one 7 inch EP. After the release of their last ever recording, which was the ever infamous Severe Abominations EP, the band changed its name to Tiamat and became one of the most influential metal bands in the nineties. Since then, the Treblinka recordings were never touched by the band but have been heavily shifted by bootleggers all over the globe.

However, as constant dripping wears down the stone, the time has come for the first authorised Treblinka release since 1989: Shrine Of The Pentagram, which will be released 7th October via Century Media as a king sized 3 CD mediabook, a deluxe box set with LP sized booklet as well as digital download.

Daniel Ekeroth, author of Swedish Death Metal has done an elaborate interview with JörgenJuck Thullberg and StefanEmetic Lagergren revealing many unknown details and a lot of entertaining side notes from the history of the band while Olivier Badin (writer for Terrorizer and Iron Fist) has interviewed JohanHellslaughter Edlund for his view on the importance and influence of Treblinka.

Broken Hope offer free download of new track “Ghastly”

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 19th August 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

Ghastly, one of the track’s from Broken Hope‘s upcoming album Omen Of Disease, is available as a free download. You can download the track at this location. Guitarist Jeremy Wagner comments:

I’m really excited to have Ghastly released as a free download for the world – our gift to you. I have to say, Ghastly is one of my favorite tracks from the Omen Of Disease album! As I wrote the music on this song, I took riffs I’d been saving for awhile, combined them with new death metal ideas, and sewed the whole thing together to make for one of our sickest and most relentless musical tracks. Lyrically, I wrote about an unfortunate person who was born so physically repulsive from head-to-toe/inside-and-out, that the mere sight of the hideous form could almost blind and nauseate you. Like a Gorgon, but even more horrific. Hence the line: Ghastly…a horrid blight upon the eyes. With Ghastly and The Flesh Mechanic, I think these tunes will give everyone a good idea of what to expect from the entire Omen Of Disease album. Enjoy!

Omen Of Disease, which is Broken Hope‘s sixth studio album and their album since 1999, is scheduled for release on 30th September in Europe and 1st October in North America via Century Media.

Pinkish Black to release Razed To The Ground in September via Century Media

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 5th August 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

Originally rallying under the banner of The Great Tyrant in 2005 with the vision of setting a new definition for the word heavy, the trio became a duo following the passing of bassist Tommy Atkins, the darker macabre entity that has become known as Pinkish Black appeared on the scene, comprised of Daron Beck on vocals and synths and drummer Jon Teague.  Vocalist Daron comments:

Jon and I have been playing music for over 2 decades. The whole process of getting to this point in our lives and our music has been very much a repeating cycle of building to inevitably tear down to build again to tear down and so on… it’s how all life is. Building, destroying, building, destroying…

Razed to the Ground was recorded and mixed at The Echo Lab by Matt Brenhart and mastered by James Plotkin. The songs themselves pierce the same vein as the band’s earlier material; death rock, post-punk, doom, and electronic elements slither over and under one another.

Razed to the Ground will see a 16th September release date in Europe from Century Media Records. Check out the album cover above and track listing below:

Razed To The Ground track listing:

  1. She Left Him Red
  2. Ashtray Eyes
  3. Kites and Vultures

  5. Bad Dreamer

Eyes Set To Kill release “Behind The Scenes” video for forthcoming album Masks

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 5th August 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

During in the time that lead upto the pre-production of their upcoming album Masks, Eyes Set To Kill decided to not worry about expectations and just demo two of their strongest new songs: True Colors and Nothing Left To Say. As a result of the two anthemic, catchy songs, the band landed a deal with Century Media Records. Guitarist, singer and songwriter Alexia Rodriguez commented:

Those two songs served as a blueprint for the entire record. When we were writing, I didn’t try to do what everybody else does. We didn’t need to throw a ton of riffs into one song or get overly technical. I wanted to make music that was catchy.

With that train of though, the band retreated to a studio in South California with renowned producer Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Sepultura). During that process, Alexia evolved hugely as the band’s main songwriter and the band’s sound expanded because of this. For the first time, Cisko added staggering screams and vocals, building the harmonies and everything became amplified from the heaviness to the hooks.

A sneak preview of the recording process can be viewed below:

Masks will be in released 23rd September via Century Media Records in Europe and Australia/NZ.

Broken Hope reveal artwork for long awaited album Omen of Disease

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 31st July 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

Death metal quintet Broken Hope recently unveiled the artwork for their upcoming and long awaited album Omen of Disease. The cover painting was created by world-renowned horror-artist, Wes Benscoter (Slayer, Hypocrisy, Autopsy, Kreator, etc). Broken Hope’s guitarist Jeremy Wagner commented:

Wes Benscoter is one of my favorite artists, EVER. In my opinion, he’s right up there with Frank Frazetta, Michael Whelan, and Todd Schorr. Ever since Benscoter did our Repulsive Conception and Loathing album covers, I’ve wanted to work with him again. I was beyond thrilled when Benscoter agreed to take on the Omen Of Disease project…and he nailed it! He’s captured the vile essence, putrid vibe, and apocalyptic, disease-laden horror of Omen Of Disease. Thank you for creating another masterpiece, Wes Benscoter.

Omen Of Disease was recorded between two studios: drums were exclusively recorded at Belle City Sound in Racine, WI with engineer Chris Wisco (Lazarus A.D., Jungle Rot, Origin, Gorgasm), and the remaining bulk of the album was completed at Mercenary Digital Studios in Zion, IL with engineer Scott Creekmore (Broken Hope, Dirge Within, Lividity).

Omen Of Disease will be released on 30th September via Century Media Records.

Eyes Set To Kill premier lyric video for Lost And Forgotten

Posted in News with tags , , , , on 30th July 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

Eyes Set To Kill, whom are led by the lovely sisters Alexia and Anissa Rodriguez, will be uncovering their identity on 23rd September with the release of Masks – their fifth full length album – via Century Media. The concept behind the album is the idea that at some point or another, everybody wears a mask and that facades don’t just hide imperfections or insecurities either. It allows its wearer to assume a different face. Sometimes, that’s a dangerous proposition. Other times, it’s the only way to find oneself.

ESTK have release the lyric video for Lost And Forgotten which is the first song to be released from the album. The lyric video can be viewed below.

Watain present new song from upcoming album, The Wild Hunt, plus exclusive cover

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 22nd July 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

In anticipation of the release of their upcoming album, The Wild Hunt, Sweden’s sinister black metal cultists Watain have unveiled anther new song from the album. The new song, The Child Must Die, can be heard down below. Watain made comment on the song:

The Child Must Die is a song of sorrow and liberation, of the sacrifices that the path of adversity requires. Musically it shows yet another side of The Wild Hunt, being more Heavy Metal-rooted perhaps than All That May Bleed.

In related news, Watain have also teamed up with American Decibel Magazine to give fans a white-on-black flexi disc for an exclusive cover of Fuck Off, We Murder, as made famous by GG Allin. Head to this location to listen to the cover. Commenting on the cover, Watain had the following to say:

Driven by an inner fire and a genuine contempt for society and all its particles, GG Allin lived and died as a true rock n roll outlaw, and is to this day an inspiration for anyone to whom conformity and authority are things that must be fought and eliminated, not only by words but by action.

The flexi disc for Fuck Off, We Murder will be available for subscribers only in Decibel’s September issue (out in August).

Produced once again by Tore Stjerna at his Necromorbus studio in Alvik (Sweden), The Wild Hunt is a sonic and lyrical tour-de-force that explores Watain‘s roots, such as Bathory and Dissection, while also remaining truly unique. Having lost none of their integrity, Watain continues to push the boundaries of the scene with their fifth full-length, refusing to compromise their sound and vision. Amid the tracks teeming with the band’s classic sound, The Wild Hunt also features clean vocals (a first for the band!) which, as front-man Erik puts it, “…is just us being brutally personal and honest. It shows another important facet of the Watain world.” As this new album will soon prove, Watain truly lives in a world all their own.

The Wild Hunt is due out 19th August in Europe and 20th August in North America through the band’s own label His Master’s Noise via Century Media Records.

iwrestledabearonce reveal details for third studio

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on 10th June 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson, the North Sea Poet

Los Angeles based experimental-heavy-rock band iwrestledabearonce have announced they will release their highly anticipated, third studio album Late For Nothing, on 12th August in Europe via Century Media Records.

Late For Nothing was self-produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by the band’s guitarist and programmer Steven Bradley at the band’s home studio in Los Angeles.  It also marks IWABO’s first record with their fiery new singer Courtney LaPlante who joined the band with only a day’s notice during last summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

Newly recharged with the addition of LaPlante, Bradley and cohorts John Ganey (guitar and programming), Mike “Rickshaw” Martin (bass) and Mikey Montgomery (drums) are set to keep their fans guessing with Late For Nothing. While the band’s signature, avant-garde style is well intact on the new album; their style has progressed immensely.  By far their boldest and most accessible release to date Late For Nothing rips and roars with blunt force intensity, incorporating their brain joggling breakdowns with a unique blend of electronics, jazzed-out time signatures and break neck riffage. Bradley affirms this:

The entire album came together as a result of us wanting to do something different. We didn’t want to make another weird IWABO album or whatever people were expecting.  We set out to make something different and better than anything we’ve ever released.  It’s a more evolved version of the band.  We explored new styles and genres as well—especially in terms of the more spacey, epic, and beautiful parts. It’s got the most melodic moments of our career as well as the heaviest.

Featuring the forthcoming, schizophrenic first single Thunder Chunky, Late For Nothing scales the summit of heavy rock and metal with twelve teeth gnashing tracks that find a happy medium between crushing metal and beautifully orchestrated melody. The album’s opener, Thunder Chunky, sets the tone for the album as they slash their way through songs like Letters To Stallone, that showcases LaPlante’s incredible balance of full throttle screams and melodic choruses, and Carnage Asada which features a guest solo from the legendary Steve Vai.
