Arch Enemy announce new vocalist

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on 17th March 2014 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Early June will see the ninth studio album, War Eternal, released by Swedish death metal warriors Arch Enemy world wide via Century Media and Trooper Entertainment in Japan. With the ninth studio album, the band will be debuting their brand new vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, formerly of The Angonist. Angela Gossow, who joined Arch Enemy in 2000 and made her debut on the now classic Wages Of Sin, will be stepping down as front-woman and focusing on management, while Alissa takes her place. Angela comments:

Dear Arch Enemy fans, this is not easy to tell you… I have decided to step down from being Arch Enemy’s voice of anger. After 13 years of pure fucking metal, 6 studio albums and countless tours through five continents, I feel the need to enter a different phase in my life, be with my family and pursue other interests. I will however remain business manager for Arch Enemy, and I will continue to develop my artist management roster.

I am staying true to my heavy metal roots, just leaving the spotlight so to speak. I am passing the torch to the super talented Alissa White-Gluz, whom I’ve known as a dear friend and a superb vocalist for many years. I always thought she deserved a chance to shine – and now she’s getting it. Just like I got that chance back in 2001.

I want to thank all Arch Enemy fans, our labels Century Media (worldwide) and Trooper Entertainment (Japan), our dedicated road crew, and in particular Michael, Daniel and Sharlee for their love and support throughout all these years. It’s been one hell of a ride! We conquered every situation, made it through thick & thin together in the most exciting and rewarding time of my life. Thank you all for being there with me on stage, in front of the stage, and backstage. You have touched my heart, and I hope I was able to give something back to you. I am grateful for the wonderful memories – I will cherish them forever!

I am looking forward to the next decade of Arch Enemy madness! Right now I am listening through rough mixes of the new studio album and I am blown away! 2014 will see a renewed Arch Enemy at the top of their game. I am proud to be part of this Arch Enemy chapter, albeit in a different way – revving up the engines behind the scenes. I hope to see you in front of the stage; I will join you there this time. Let the killing begin, once again!

In related news, in three days time, the band will unveil their video for the title track of their upcoming album War Eternal.

Swedish metal pioneers The Haunted will soon be debuting brand new music by releasing a three track single titled Eye Of The Storm on 20th January in Europe and 21st January in North America. The single will be released through Century Media. The artwork for the single can be seen above.

Eye Of The Storm will be available as limited edition 7” EP (1000 copies split as follows: 500x on black vinyl, 300 on red vinyl and 200x on white vinyl) and as digital single, featuring the new songs Eye Of The Storm, Infiltrator and My Enemy. The single marks The Haunted’s recording debut in their revamped line-up announced last summer, featuring founding members Jensen (Guitars) and Jonas Björler (Bass), returning members Marco Aro (Vocals) and Adrian Erlandsson (Drums) as well as new member Ola Englund (Guitars). The band’s founding member and guitarist Jensen comments:

There aren’t superlatives enough to describe how much the band has longed for these three songs to be released. We are sure fans have been anxious to know what the band sounds like today after all the turmoil and old members leaving and new members joining. We feel that these three songs represent the band perfectly. We are currently working on the new album, an album that will be filled to the brim with what we know to be The Haunted. We’ll start doing gigs this spring and we’ll do festivals all over the place this summer. Get in touch with the festivals you visit (and behave like an animal at) and tell them to get us on the bill! The Haunted is back. Play it loud. No. Louder.

The Haunted, who are currently busy working on their upcoming studio album release expected for Summer 2014, will be celebrating their long awaited return to stages and debut the revamped line-up by taking part of the upcoming 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise, which runs from 27th to 31st January 2014 going from Miami to Costa Maya in Mexico and back to Miami. Other bands appearing include Carcass, Cynic, Dark Tranquillity, Death Angel, Death (To All), Fear Factory, Finntroll, Obituary, Orphaned Land, Satyricon and many more.

Caliban reveal artwork for Ghost Empire

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on 11th November 2013 by Nico Solheim-Davidson

Caliban have recently revealed the artwork for their upcoming album Ghost Empire. The artwork was designed by UK artist Chris Lovell. Guitarist Marc Görtz comments on the artwork:

Another great artist told me about Chris and his art, when I checked out his page I loved his style and amazing drawings straight away. So I wrote him a message if he would be into designing a T-shirt design for us. It turned out great, so there was no doubt whom to ask for the new album artwork for Ghost Empire! I told him what the album is about and he said that he would love to do it. It didn’t take long for him to come up with first ideas which were amazing! I hope we can work with him on other projects in the future, he is a great guy and easy to work with and I think the result speaks for itself!

The artist of the artwork (which can be viewed above), Chris Lovell, explains how a custom piece of art comes to life:

I have been heavily into metal since the age of 12. It’s always nice when a band I am a fan of contacts me with a brief for a project. I was stoked to read Marc’s ideas as post apocalyptic imagery is something I have an obsession with. I grew up loving films like Mad Max, Cyborg and the Fist Of The North Star anime. There’s something about destroyed buildings and wastelands that stir my imagination and conjure up all kinds of haunting images in my head. It’s also much more fun and easier to draw ruined buildings than perfect ones!

Marc and I brainstormed ideas one evening and we came up with lots of elements we liked such as crows, scarecrows, rats etc. I sketched out a very rough concept idea and layout for the basic image. The front and back cover is all in one, so I had a nice wide landscape to work with. I liked the idea of a road on the main cover, leading to what could look like a hive of collapsed skyscrapers and buildings, leaning on each other and climbing into the clouds. On the left side a cliff face leading down to stormy seas and a shore line littered with ship wrecks and capsized boats. I wanted the image to look void of human life and haunting. I drew out the bulk of the main image in pencil, then used inks and acrylic paint to add depth and highlights. I then scanned the image in and coloured it with a graphics tablet on Photoshop. I drew a number of other elements, like telegraph poles, crows, skulls and rats and scanned them in separately. I wanted to be able to experiment with placement and give the band the option to move elements around etc. I lost track of how many hours I put into the piece, it all becomes a blur. I like to stream horror movies or listen to music and just lose myself in the art I make. I have a bit of an obsession with detail and I tend to spend hours tweaking elements on an image people will probably never even notice. Caliban have been a pleasure to work with. After I had the pleasure of hearing the demos while working on this project it is an honour to have done the artwork for what will be an amazing album!

The album, Ghost Empire, was produced by Görtz in co-operation with Benny Ritcher. Ghost Empire is set for release on the following dates via Century Media:

Germany / Austria /Switzerland / Australia / NZ: 24th January 2014
Rest of Europe: 27thJanuary 2014
USA / Canada: 4th February 2014
