Carnal Demise – Carnal Demise
Band: Carnal Demise
Album: Carnal Demise
Release date: April 2012
Genre: Groove Metal / Thrash Metal
Label: Inverse Records
‘Carnal Demise’ is the self-titled debut album from the Finnish thrash metal band of the same name. It is the follow-up to four demos released by the band since their formation back in 2007.
The opening track ‘Flatline Fever’ treats the listener to some fast, groovy thrash metal. So far so… …then the vocals kick in and what you end up with is a bizarre, poorly executed mix of current Sepultura and Slayer with hints of Driller Killer. ‘Scum’ is definitely more in the thrash metal category with its long, progressive sounding guitar solos. Not bad, had it not been for the vocals. They are clear but not quite clear enough, the guy sounds like he is squealing rather than singing. Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble working out what the guy is saying?
Things only get worse with ‘Troubleloaded Demonspeeded’ which despite some decent guitar riffs is single-handedly ruined by the random and ill-fitting vocals. ‘League’ is one of the few highlights on here thanks to its Slayer-esque guitar riffs, solos and, for once decent thrash metal vocals. Other noteworthy tracks include ‘The Pulse of the End’ which features a techno infused intro and ‘Knives and Nails’ in which the singer has a go at some death metal -style growling.
